NOTE: As of late August, 2014, it appears that King5 has arbitrarily pulled the news article and video from their site, which was located here: http://www.king5.com/news/cities/seattle/City-Light-considering-smart-meters-critics-voice-health-concerns-265309131.html.

The article included a news clip of more than 40 Seattlites verbally pledging to Seattle City Council that they will hold the council members “financially and criminally liable for all harm,” as individuals, should they proceed with plans to deploy so-named “smart” meters.  Emails to the station inquiring why the article has been censored have so far been unanswered.

SEATTLE — Seattle City Light is developing a new way to read your electric meter. Say goodbye to the human meter reader and hello to the smart meter.

An award winning documentary by a Seattle filmmaker is being played out in Seattle as City Light unveils a plan to install smart meters. Filmmaker Josh Del Sol is joining a group of opponents who calls the smart meter technology a Trojan horse that will enter your home.

“This is demanding an immediate halt to this agenda,” said Del Sol.

The demand is aimed at City Light CEO Jorge Carrasco at a Seattle City Council meeting where the technology is debated.

There are mounting health concerns about the radioactive waves used in the smart meters. They’re more powerful than a microwave or a cell phone, with a strong continuous signal.

“It’s part of our house. We can’t escape it. We have no control over it.  With a cell phone you can turn it off at night,” said John Ruhland, naturopathic doctor.

City Light says the new meters will help consumers monitor their energy use and save money.
Carrasco says they’re safe.

”I have no evidence at the moment to suggest that there are any documented, significant health issues,” said Carrasco.

But critics bring one voice to the debate: don’t install them or else.

“We will hold you financially responsible.”

Puget Sound Energy is already using smart meters for some customers. The Seattle City Council is requiring City Light to complete a study of the health effects before giving smart meters the green light.

  • How many times do public utilities need to extort citizens for a public resource that should have been provided free in the first place??? The sheeple have been totally duped into thinking they should have to pay, and pay, and pay, for every damn thing they utilize. The largest electrical users are obviously businesses who are tax subsidized. Nice work if you can get it….
The entire world economy is 100% owned and operated by corporations, not Federal, State, municipal, or local citizen authority. That’s why these lackey dolts in municipal jurisdictions keep waffling the ball. They have no authority because there are no US Constitutional provisions in place.
The former United States has been illegally operating under “The War Powers Act” since 1933. Wake up. You have no rights whatsoever, and you’re being snuffed with “smart” technology you have no control over. Be sure to thank your corporate/capitalist/mafia system for your mutual demise. Please turn off the lights as you leave planet Earth.

  • Nice to see a group emphatically stand up to the Power Brokers (pun intended). Let’s see how well they listen.
